Yes. Many people build decks around their hot tubs. There are a few things that you will want to take into consideration when building a deck around your spa. First, you will need to know the model that you are going to get. See our hot tub models. You will need to have access to the service side of the hot tub, which is usually the front. You can leave this area without decking or plan a service hatch that will allow for a service technician to easily access the equipment if needed. Another important thing to plan is the way that you will uncover your hot tub. We strongly recommend the use of a cover lifter device. Having a cover lifter makes using your hot tub much easier, which will mean that you will use it more often; and that is why you want a hot tub, right? There are different cover lifters that require different amounts of space or heights. It is important to know which lifter you will use prior to designing and building your deck around your new hot tub. Another thing to consider is the height of the deck that you build. Many people think of building a deck flush with the top of their spa. Over the years, we have found it to be much easier to get in and out of a spa with a deck surround if the deck is built with the top of the spa being about seat height above the deck (approximately 17.5 inches). This way, you can easily sit down of the edge of the spa and simply swing your legs over to get in or out. Decks can be beautiful additions to your hot tub area, however our hot tubs are designed to look beautiful with or without a deck around them.
