An Introduction to Home Hot Tub Basics

Hot tub home basics

Buying a home hot tub can be an exhilarating experience until you get it set up and realize you feel overwhelmed at the thought of caring for it. The Hot Tub Store experts are no strangers to this sensation, and we are more than equipped to guide you through basic steps to make you feel comfortable caring for your new purchase.

Daily Home Hot Tub Care

The most important thing to do daily for your hot tub is to run the jets so water can circulate. You are running all of this while you are soaking, so if you use your hot tub daily, you are already doing this!

Some hot tub models come with the option to have timers set to make sure your water stays circulated automatically with or without you. Many of the hot tubs available from The Hot Tub Store have silent, super energy efficient circulation that is running 24/7. Anytime we can get a technology upgrade to take care of something for us, we are thrilled.

Weekly Home Hot Tub Care

Weekly water care is where you will find the steps most people think of when they think of caring for a hot tub or pool. You will want to test the water at least once a week to make sure your water chemistry stays balanced.

Keep all of the things you might need on hand to keep you from running around town when you realize you are out. The Hot Tub Store has the products you will need and knowledgeable staff who can help you care for your water. Our auto-ship program will also make sure you always have stock of the things you need. You can also take the opportunity to wipe things down while you are using a test strip to check the chemistry or wait for added water care to circulate.

Don’t forget to spray off your filter regularly. A simple spraying of water from the hose will do the trick.

Monthly Home Hot Tub Care

Pick the same date each month or mark your calendar to help you remember to take a few extra steps during your weekly routine. You will want to use a cleaner on your filter at this point to make sure things aren’t building up.

You will also take this time to wipe down the shell, cover, and pillows on your hot tub. In any place where grime can build up, you can use a mild cleanser to wipe it away. Just remember to not get soap into the water.

Quarterly Hot Tub Care

Depending on use, generally every three to four months, you will want to drain and fill your home hot tub. Drain all of the water out and use this opportunity to wipe down the entire hot tub. There are special formulas you can use to make sure everything is shiny when you refill it. If you have a saltwater hot tub, you might be able to wait quite a bit longer to drain, clean, and refill.

Soak your filter in cleaner while the hot tub is draining to remove any extra stuck substance that hasn’t been taken care of with the weekly hose down.

Refill the hot tub and balance the chemistry to make sure everything stays fresh and running great.

Never stress about the care of your home hot tub. The Hot Tub Store is available to answer questions and help walk you through any steps you may need.

Happy hot tubbing!
